UPDATE 4/11/26:

These boys have been through a lot. More than most rats go through in one short year of life. After their owner passed away, they were taken in by a sympathetic friend who wanted to keep them from being euthanized. However, he soon realized he was not equipped to care for them, so he surrendered them. They came to us as a trio, but it was soon discovered that they were fighting – with injuries. Ultimately, the rat who turned out to be the bully was separated from the others. Since then, Patches and Whiteout have settled into a more relaxed and happy life.

These boys are somewhat friendly with humans, but they prefer each other’s company. They will come to the cage door for treats, and are easily moved from cage to play area with a quick scoop or in a box. Like most rats, they prefer not to be picked up “claw style.”

Patches and Whiteout would love to spend the second half of their lives in a calm, comfortable home with things to do and lots of treats.
