Momma came to us on 10/16/17 after she was found abandoned in a cemetery in NYC. Her babies were born as she came to us already pregnant! The boys were neutered on 12/29/17 and are safe to live with ladies as of 1/19/18.

Fostered by Judi in Latham, NY.

UPDATE 1/3/18:

“I can’t believe this was a cemetery rescue just two months ago. The babies already adopted are doing beautifully and being spoiled rotten in their forever homes.

Ruby is a sweet inquisitive girl who loves her out time but keeps checking back with me for a cuddle. She loves popping in and out of a Ratoob or sleeve, and also is a very patient shoulder sitter. She is such a social rat that she only has to spot you (which is often as there cage is right by me 24/7 to set her off bruxing and lip smacking. Before separated the sexes, she happily rolled with her brothers and liked to cuddle with mom even without nursing. She also loves our old man. Truly the Switzerland of ratties, she should fit well in any home with any rats.

Since Sam and Dean were adopted, John has become alpha, but is not a butt about it. He has always liked his independence and spends much time resting or eating alone. He also loves loves loves his Wodent Wheel more than any male I’ve seen and runs in it several times each evening and night and occasionally gives it a daytime spin. He’s the last to come when called for treats, and I need to pick him up for out time. He likes the Ratoob and my husband’s belly and sleeves but doesn’t beg for out time. He sometimes joins Castiel and Bobby for a nap, usually in the litter box. I put in a long ladder to give them another Pseudo level to play on and its like watching an old Errol Flynn movie–chasing each other up and down the ladder, then somebody will stop mid ladder and turn to defend his position from the front (and underneath LOL).

Castiel and Bobby are both super social. They tumble and play with each other, brux and boggle in the Ratoob, and both are fascinated by faces. Bobby will stick his little nose into ears and nostrils and tickle you. He’ll also crawl into an exercise bra, I let Bobby put his little front paws on my lips to pull them open and explore my teeth. My husband doesn’t and Bobby;s cool with that. Castiel just rubs against your face, pushes into your hand and circles around on your shoulders.

They all hang on the bars for quick, one-fingered tummy rubs. Mary passed on her smarts–they know their names, mama and daddy, “gentle mouth” treat, warning that a big noise is coming, and down (the command to quit storming the door so I can open it to deliver food. They show their restlessness during out time if they need back in the cage for potty time. It’s a hoot how they’ve learned to take turns for treats.”

UPDATE 11/19/17:

“The Supernaturals are the sweetest baby rats I’ve met and SO easy to handle. Away from Mary’s super-watchful eye, you could scoop them up from above, below, by the handful—they didn’t care. At first, all they did was nurse and sleep. Yet, highly social, they snuggled into our hands, licked our fingers, bruxed and even boggle-ished under their eyelids. Then eyes opened, ears came forward, but they continued to nurse and sleep for one more day.

Then they EXPLODED—popcorning, tumbling, climbing, eating baby mash and crunching Sue Bee’s mix. Shredding linens and hanging on the cage doors so it’s a major task to safely deliver treats or let them out for cuddles. Where Mary used to haul them around, they now mug Mary for the nearest nipple and squeal in protest when their bottoms are washed. Already showing distinctive personalities, they’re learning their names, notice the smallest changes in their environment and are clearly bright even on the rat scale.

Our Sam Winchester, like the show’s 6’7” star, is driven to go, go, go. He’ll keep going until he simply falls over, whether nursing or not. He’s an adventurer—one of the first to try new toys, the one who puts bizzy balls in empty food bowls, and loves to ham at the bars. He’s also a squeaker when groomed and bruxes and lip smacks.

Dean Winchester, Sam’s brother in the show, is more a people charmer than a rat’s rat. He nurses with his siblings, but then will often rest alone in the cage. He was the first to beg at the bars to come out, and loves to climb into shirt sleeves or bras, bruxing and boggling away. He will explore, but always checks back for a cuddle. He’s a favorite for both Steve and me.

Bobby Singer was to be a show temporary, but fans loved the wise and grizzled hunter who became a father figure to Sam and Dean. Our “Bobby” is the most independent pup. He squeaked in protest when Mary picked him up, and squeaks a little grump if you try to redirect him away from an opening door or an empty dish. However, he bruxes when you stroke his tiny cheek.

In the show, Castiel is an archangel of great power and too much love for humanity. Our “Castiel” is a lover and a fighter, enjoying cuddles with his people but also squeaking his head off when tumbling with Bobby.

John Winchester plays a mechanic, Vietnam Vet and Sam and Dean’s father. Like young “John,” baby “John” is rather quiet, unassuming, but as cuddly as the rest.

Girls

Retired hunter Ellen Harville and her daughter Jo run a bar frequented by hunters. She relays messages and becomes a mother figure to “Sam” and “Dean.” Our “Ellen” is super-sweet, gently protective of her siblings, bruxes, kisses and likes to lick and groom you when petted. She resists going back to mama—would rather keep cuddling.

The chipper personality and creative hacker skills of T.V.’s Charlie Bradbury keep Sam and Dean grinning in an otherwise dark world. Our “Charlie’s” tiny size hides great energy and good spirits. She climbs, explores, tops sibling mountains, plays with toys, and if you catch her, cuddles sweetly.

T.V. Ruby was a human turned demon. Although she has her reasons, she does much to “help” the brothers. She’s our daughter’s favorite. She’ll brux and boggle through a long cuddle. She can also be an inventive little dickens. She was first to climb, would fall and get right back up to climb again, or ride up the cage bars by holding a sibling’s tail. Twice she nearly got stuck by finding that SLIGHTLY wider gap in the bars where the door closes.

Mother: In the show, Mary Winchester twice gave her life to save her sons. Rattie Mary is fiercely protective of her brood. Her original rescuer said she was a sweetie before she gave birth, despite being abandoned in a cemetery and trying to nest in a car. I felt that old “heart rat” pull while talking to her in her carrier on the way home, and heard her brux and lip smack back. She’s so small and young herself she had to stand on her tiptoes or lie on her back to nurse everyone, but all eight grew fat and sassy and we were able to increase her weight as well. However, she arrived as a fierce cage defender. She’s made progress, taking treats with “gentle mouth,” crawling willingly into and out of a Ratoob and accepting cuddles through the cloth. She’ll crawl out onto the doorway and let me pet her directly, and accepts redirection and distraction. With enough sweettalking first, she will now stay on her perch while we check and cuddle her babies. When I gave her scraps of her favorite spinach/tomato pizza, I was stunned when she shared with her babies first before she had any. But she still crawls around the top of her half of the cage and hisses at my sweet old man, and tries to bite his tail or toes. She does not always telegraph her launches, so she’s nailed us several times. But I love her and believe she has heart rat potential.”
