UPDATE 6/22/22:

“Rocco and Francis are very shy, but they are also super sweet! They are both playful and curious, and I think they will flourish in their forever home with some patience and opportunities to build confidence. Every morning they greet me at the cage door and they always come out to investigate when they hear something going on in our home. I have been spending a lot of time just sitting quietly with them and letting them investigate me in their own time, and they have been making progress every day.

Neither of them has bitten me out of fear or aggression, but they have nibbled on my hands and fingers a few times while they are investigating me. I have been making sure not to have any scents on my hands that they might mistake for food, and working on teaching them “gentle mouth” behaviors. They are making progress but their forever home should be prepared to keep working on this with them, as well.

Francis is the more outgoing of the pair. He is always the first to the front of the cage when I come into their room. He is comfortable eating near me and accepting a few gentle pats. He is very eager to explore, even though he startles easily.

Rocco is more shy, but he usually comes out to see me when he notices that his brother is getting attention or food. He loves to climb and make huge nests under his fleece blankets. I have to be very slow and quiet to avoid startling him, but as he gains confidence with me he is getting more willing to come right back out of hiding for more socialization.”
