UPDATE 1/26/2023:

“Pancake is making progress! She is a very curious rat and loves to explore and build nests. She will allow me to touch her in exchange for snacks, and I can now pick her up (she doesn’t like it, but she’s fine once she’s standing on my arms). She consented to me petting her for a couple minutes last night. She enjoyed it, and then left when she’d had her fill. She’s still generally sensitive to handling but she is adjusting faster than I expected. She has a ways to go and I will continue to work with her, but I think it would be fine to adopt her out to an experienced owner without kids who is willing to continue this work with her. She does get protective of her space when she is in her sputnik. Also, she absolutely LOVES green beans.

Peaches is extremely gentle and polite. It’s impossible not to fall in love with her sweetness. She doesn’t resist being touched or picked up, but she also doesn’t really enjoy it. While she is cooperative, she is also quite timid. She can be bribed with treats, but is not as motivated by them as Pancake is. I suspect it will take some patience for her to come out of her shell more, but I believe that patience will be well rewarded. Peaches is a big fan of pretzels.”
