UPDATE 12/4/23:

“We are shocked that these girls haven’t been adopted yet! But we’ve been having a ball with them in the meantime.

We’ve continue to learn more about each of their unique personalities:

Papaya has been spending more time with us lately. She now lets us give her quick snuggles when she checks in with us on the way to her next activity.

Merlyn is a total goofball. She’s constantly making us laugh. Unlike Papaya, she’s not exactly a natural athlete. She loves to attempt big jumps, and she always looks so determined and confident – but then she usually only makes it about halfway.”

UPDATE 9/24/23:

“These girls are a lot of fun! Overall, they are really well-adjusted, adaptable, happy rats. They’re some of the bravest rats I’ve met – not at all scared of new people or new things.

They are super smart and have a *ton* of energy – they will do best in a home that can give them lots of free roam and enrichment. Merlin has been known to nibble – not particularly hard, but hard enough that I wouldn’t recommend these girls for a home with children.

They both very distinct personalities:

Papaya is in charge. She’s the most energetic, smartest, and bravest of the two – she makes the most of every minute of free roam she gets. Make sure your rat-proofing is solid – one of her favorite activities is finding new ways to escape the free roam enclosure. She is an impressive and fearless jumper, and she enjoys climbing up on your shoulder and launching herself at nearby pieces of furniture. She doesn’t always make it, but she sure loves to try!

Merlin can be skittish around loud noises or fast movements. She’s not a huge fan of being picked up, but enjoys interacting with people otherwise. She’s a bit more curious about humans. Once she gets used to you, she will stay still for gentle scritches. She’s also the main nester of the two – she loves pulling bits of paper into her favorite hides.
