UPDATE 7/5/23:

“Jinora and Ikki are friendly girls who come up to the front of the cage looking for attention while I’m getting ready for work in the morning. They are easy to pick up, including when they meet strangers (I’ve had friends over who got to hold and pet them). When the weather is nice enough, they love when I leave a window open for them to curiously sniff the outside air. Jinora is slightly more adventurous than Ikki, but they are both easygoing rats.

Jinora and Ikki arrived in foster care severely obese. They have lost ~100g since being switched to a more appropriate diet, but are still heavy. For this reason, they should go to a home where the owner can have some restraint giving treats and keep them on a “no dessert” diet. However, that doesn’t mean you will miss out on giving them treats. Both rats are very enthusiastic about food (especially Jinora) and get excited to receive their daily fruits and vegetables, so these can be used as treats. I also give them low-calorie banana flavored puffed rice baby snacks as special treats without disturbing their diet.

While most of the time I can pick up both girls into my arms even from hard-to-reach places without issue, there have been a couple of times when Jinora has given a warning nip when I’ve startled her trying to do so. She has never broken skin, and will let go and come right up to me to sniff me after with no signs of fear, this may make her a bad match for a home with young children. Other than this, I believe the girls would be a delightful addition to almost any home.”
