Colby Jack came to us from another shelter on 12/22/23. He was adopted on 2/4/24 and introduced to Amber. Unfortunately their owner is moving to a new home that will not allow them to keep mice. Penny came to us on 3/17/24 because she lost her cage mate and needed some friends. She was introduced to Colby Jack and Amber and they all became fast friends.
Fostered by Lisa in Holliston, MA.

UPDATE 3/21/24:
“Penny is energetic and inquisitive and loves chewing on things and playing with toys. Once she’s comfortable with you, she will climb onto your hand and doesn’t mind being held. But she won’t still still—she loves exploring!
UPDATE 3/6/24:
“All are very hand-friendly and don’t mind being picked up at all. They are happy snoozing the day away snuggled up together.
Colby Jack will climb right onto your hand and is eager to come out and get head and cheek rubs. He’ll even brux and boggle for you when you hit that sweet spot!
Amber is a petite mouse who is very sweet and friendly. She will sit calmly and enjoy head rubs. She loves running on her wheel.”
UPDATE 2/18/24:
“Colby Jack is a friendly boy with this cute habit of holding one paw up curled against his body. He is a bit unsteady when climbing but is getting better at it. He must have access to a wheel!
Amber may be the oldest, she’s lost a little weight and sleeps more, she may be the mother of Flake. She is a friendly calm girl who get along with all the other mice. Still runs on the wheel sometimes. Amber often chooses to stay home when the others come out to play.
They enjoy being talked to, getting a new tp tube or old box etc on a reg. basis. Willing to sample new foods, esp leafy greens and flax seeds
They all enjoy out time on table top cluttered with boxes, hides, tubes, and things to explore. They adore dig boxes and fresh herbs. There is no worry of them climbing or jumping off the table but due to her age, I’d keep an eye on Amber, she may lose her balance as she’s got some weakness in her hind end. I take them out at least once a week for an hour or so. But otherwise they are easy to please. If they are bored, you will know, they will be out in the open during the day climbing the bars to get your attention.
These are wonderful, sweet and mostly calm mice.
These mice are an entertaining group with minimal needs. They love a lot of clutter; if their cage looks somewhat like a trash heap, you can be confident that THEY are very very happy! they enjoy some time out of the cage on a regular basis but won’t make you feel guilty if it doesn’t happen every day or even for several days.”
UPDATE 1/4/24:
“Sometimes in life you just need a friend. Someone who understands that you’ve had a tough start in life, and that’s why you’re a little rough around the edges. Someone who understands that you’re tiny and afraid of everything, especially hands. Someone who is willing to just sit and keep you company and talk to you in a soft voice and watch your antics and appreciate you for who you are.
Colby Jack was found, along with 70 other mice, in a bag by the side of the road. He and his relatives were taken to a shelter, and while most of the mice were adopted, Colby Jack and his brother, Pepper Jack, were constantly overlooked. They may have been hiding from the noise and commotion, or they may have bitten the scary hands that were trying to pick them up. But in the shelter they stayed, until they came to MRR.
Since being in foster, Colby Jack has moved into a luxury condo with all kinds of hides, toys, and treats. He has a small bowl of fresh produce to sample every morning and tiny peanut butter sandwiches to nibble on. He is moved from his tank to his bin when it’s cleaning time via a nifty “mouse elevator,” which is just a little box or an upside down igloo that has a treat or two in it. When it’s time to go back to the condo, he has all sorts of enrichment activities to explore.
The pleasure of having Colby Jack is seeing how comfortable he has become in his new home. It is such a joy to spoil him and let him live his best life – the life he always deserved. And it’s endless fun watching him run in his wheel, dig under his igloos, or peek out of his hides. He may never be a mouse who wants to be handled or picked up, and that’s okay.
While mice tend to be nocturnal, Colby Jack is in and out of his hides throughout the day. He loves to explore. He is currently in a 20 gallon tank with a locking lid (escape proof). He eats OxBow mouse diet along with treats, fresh produce, and little peanut butter sandwiches. He seems to enjoy trying new foods. He really is an entertaining little guy!
Favorite foods: cucumber, berries, peanut butter
Favorite activities: spinning on his wheel, exploring, sitting on fleece on top of his huts, digging under his huts”
