UPDATE 9/5/24:

These two boys are a delight! Great rats for any level of experience. They have been socialized well, since they were born under MRR care. They took no time at all to adjust when moved into my care.

Like most babies, they are full of energy and learning SO fast. They don’t hesitate to crawl all over us and play with our hands, checking to be sure our fingernails are supposed to be there and aren’t treats. They also don’t hesitate to take an opening to try and get anywhere they think they can get! Keep an eye on these adorable little buggers!

Cinnanbar (brown) is bold and creative – he once climbed onto my head to get to the top of their cage! He is, however, totally okay with being caught and plopped back into their cage. He will play with my hands in their cage, taking a lap around it between tackle attempts – and if he runs into Zircon, tackles him too for good measure! Cinnabar literally gathers peas & corn from their fishing ‘pond’ and gives them to Zircon, only having some himself when Zircon has a small mountain of goodies to eat. My heart can’t take it!!!

Zircon (black) is a bit more reserved than Cinnabar and waits for his brother to take the first leap. (Literally, when it comes to fishing for peas!) When hiding in the green plastic tube during play time, I stick my hand in there, and Zircon grooms and cuddles into my palm like it’s a fellow rat.

Chicken baby food is their most favorite treat, and they simply can’t live without a running wheel. (They like to get behind it and push it loose from the cage wall… so get a very sturdy one!) These boys are undoubtedly delightful now, and I think they’ll be openly into cuddling when they’re a bit older.
