Special Needs – bites

UPDATE 5/4/23:

“Caspian has gotten a little chubby, but is otherwise showing interest in my boys as well. Been trying to teach him it’s okay to let me pick him up but he’s still a nervous little boy.”

UPDATE 3/30/2023

“Caspian is a very interesting little guy who needs someone who understands rat body language and is very patient!

He loves food and especially his free roam time!

That being said, Caspian is the most interesting little guy I’ve ever met! He didn’t have any siblings growing up, so he doesn’t exactly know how to rat. He is NOT aggressive, however, he does bite hard and therefore sometimes needs to be handled with gloves. He lets you pet him as long as he is not in his bed, but only for a little bit. Caspian doesn’t just bite people, he actually bites EVERYTHING– it’s how he learns! He never had another rat teach him how to bite nicely, and therefore, he likes to chomp everything. He has gotten better at learning that high pitched squeaks and pulling away = pain however (I teach him this with gloves on so he doesn’t actually bite me directly). Sometimes this little man even manages to bite himself hard enough too! He has a lot of personality though, but when he gets excited, he does get a bit more bitey because he wants to play!”
