UPDATE 7/22/22:

“I have probably never had rats that were this easy and friendly from the moment I got them home. Usually I give fosters a day to just settle in and get used to the room, cage, sounds. Typically, they go for a safe place, either the hammock or their hidey house. But these guys were clamoring for attention immediately. They’re easy to handle, they can be a little squirmy when you first reach for them, but if you pull them into you, they just calm right down.

At this point, and I realize it’s very early in the game, but I would definitely say these guys could go to a family with rat savvy kids.”

UPDATE 7/28/22:

“These boys are wonderful! They get more fun each day. Brett is the bolder one, he doesn’t mind being picked up at all. I think he knows that it means something fun, like bathroom time. Wyatt is a bit more hesitant, but once you get him in your hands, he is quiet and doesn’t seem to mind. I go slowly and have no issues at all. They don’t ever try to bite and are gentle taking treats from me.

They LOVE bathroom time. I sit on the floor and as the days go by, they become more brave about climbing on me. They love to skitter around, but will constantly check in with me to climb on my lap and get a few pets, then off again to run and play.

As soon as I approach the cage, they are right at the front, looking for attention. Sometimes I just sit on the floor and open the doors and hang with them. They are learning shoulder rides, Wyatt is better about it than Brett. I think they would love hoodie rides, but obviously, it is too warm to start that!

All in all, these boys are super super sweet and might even love to have a spayed lady friend or two to hang with. They don’t seem bothered by our dogs or cats when they wander into the room when I am working in here (obviously they are not out at the time).”
