UPDATE 6/3/26:

They’ve really come out of their shells since the others have been adopted and it’s been just the four of them. They are way more friendly, curious, and adventurous during free roam time, especially if we engage with them and don’t give them the option to hide. They don’t squirm as much when being handled and love to climb all over us!

UPDATE 4/15/26:

The boys are starting to come out of their shells more. They’re still timid, but definitely making progress toward becoming more social. They’re all very curious and playful, enjoying good-natured wrestling with their siblings, destroying paper and toys, and eating everything in sight. They explore and run around much more when we bring them out in pairs/trios instead of as one large group.

J. Ju. and Ollie are the bravest and most social.

Rudy and Darryl can be very friendly and playful when a human engages with them.

Andy, Duncan, and Zeke are the most timid of the group, but making lots of progress! (can be handled, no aggression)

UPDATE 3/16/26:

These boys have been coming out of their shells more and more in the weeks they have been with us. Everyone is food motivated, and they get along great with each other. The kids all tend to cuddle together while Dad (Donny) goes off for a break to nap in peace. Dad gets along great with the younger ones and will occasionally wrestle/play with some of them.

Personality traits are still developing and they will all need patient, experienced rat owners to really help them shine and be less skittish. They can all be handled for brief periods and no one will bite outside of a little test nibble to see if you’re offering food, which they will happily take from your hands. During free roam time, it takes them a bit to warm up and come out to explore but they are getting much better when brought out in smaller groups.
