UPDATE 1/24/25:
These 4 boys have come out of their shells a lot! After about a month they will take treats from your hand and may even let you pick them up briefly. They are still easily startled, but are starting to come up to the front of the cage to greet me instead of hiding. They all seem to love the wheel.
They are all hoods, so they are a bit difficult to tell apart. We tried using crayola washable markers to differentiate them but each time they had groomed it off within 24 hours.
There are 2 that are easier to tell apart by personality. Red is a nibbler, not a biter, but he does give little nibbles. Purple is still the most timid and is the first to run and hide. Green and Blue are pretty similar in personality – friendly but nervous.
I have done a couple brief playtimes with a couple of my older and calmer personal boys, and they have done well with interactions.
I feel with continued socialization these guys will thrive and truly blossom. Since they’ve been together for so long and are still timid, I feel it would be in their best interest to be adopted together if possible instead of being separated.
