UPDATE 12/31/24:

Nilla and Wafer are a pair of bonded gerbils with wildly different personalities.

Nilla is food oriented and will come running at the sound of a bag to greet you. Nilla will eat any treats for good behavior.

Wafer is more shy and finds enjoyment from dark mornings where he can sneak out to destroy any cardboard in the vicinity. Wafer loves delectable pumpkin seeds.

Both can be picked up and like running around for free roam time. They love their digging sand and big sheets of tissue paper to stuff into their nest.

Nilla will eat so much food that he leaves Wafer with very little. We’ve had to make sure we hand feed Wafer or scatter the food into spots so that Wafer can find some. Because Wafer isn’t super food motivated, it can be hard to hand feed him to compensate for this inbalance (especially since he’s picky). While both can be picked up, Wafer doesn’t particularly enjoy it and will avoid a scooping hand for a bit.
