Blue originally came to us in January 2017 as a baby and was adopted not long thereafter. She came back to us when her sister died, and has made fast friends with her foster’s own senior lady.
UPDATE 5/4/19:
“The girls are doing great! Blue Topaz and Mel haven’t had to be in separated cages since the first night. What was supposed to be an initial sniff to introduce them ended with Blue on my shoulder next to Mel as if she were saying, “Hello new rat! We’re friends now and I love you!” There have been very minor squabbles here and there, only surrounding treats. Mel is very content to let Blue be in charge and power groom to her heart’s desire, but when the treats come out it turns back to “Mel’s house,” and she puts her foot down, a learned behavior from her late, greedy, treat stealing mama. In the words of her mama, “Ruby [MRR Blue Topaz] is an expert builder, she either builds it up or takes it down. She will even drag toys into bed.” She wasn’t kidding!! Blue will play what we’ve dubbed “reverse fetch” for as long as you’ll let her. Stand in front of the open cage door and offer her pieces of shredded paper towels, and she will run back and forth to you and painstakingly build her nest until it’s perfect, then she’ll pick a new spot and continue to build another! She is a balding old double Rex though, so I can’t say I blame her trying to get nice and cozy. My 6 month old daughter is obsessed with watching her, and I make sure that every visitor to our home offers her at least a couple pieces to introduce themselves.”
