We were contacted by MSPCA – Cape Cod Animal Adoption Center in Centerville, Mass. They took rats from someone who had too many. The owner said they were separated by gender but when the females started gaining weight the shelter suspected they might be pregnant and contacted us and they were not equipped to handle that many rats. Four of the six females gave birth and we took all of the litters and put them in foster homes where they could be handled and raised with love.

These babies came into custody on 09/28/2015.

Being fostered by Andrea of Branford, CT.

Males:

These boys were neutered on March 2nd, and can live with the ladies on March 23rd!

Being fostered by Stacy of Hanover, CT.

Females:  ALL ADOPTED!

UPDATE 3/6/16:

“Cerberus: Cerb is a great boy. He takes his kissing very seriously. My hands have never been so clean! Nothing phases him, be it dog or loud noise.

Pegasus: Peg wants to be out and with you. If your arm is in the cage, it is his super highway. He is always up for a shoulder ride, although be ready for him to want to be up close and personal with whatever you’re doing!

Minotaur: Mino is a very sweet boy who has only grown in his spunk and sweet disposition. He likes his scritches and treats and naps. His idea of using the wheel is to fill it with litter to make it a more comfy sleeping spot.

Hydra: Hydra is an explorer. The minute the door is open, he’s out and on top of the cage. But he likes to check in with you and doesn’t go farther than the cage. And once the treat bag rustles, he’s front and center to get one!

Chimera: Chi is game for anything as long as you’re going too! He’s always the first head to pop up when you come to the cage and the first to try and con as many treats off you as he can (he often succeeds unless you can tell him and his brother Hydra apart or have eyes on both of them at once!).

They’re all pretty similar in disposition. Cerberus is probably the most dominant personality, but they are all very close. There’s no clear “bully” or “victim” in the bunch. There are also no clear preferences on their part for each other. They’re equal opportunity employers as to whom they sleep with or jump on. I don’t honestly know how they will react with other rats as I never seen them interact with any rat other than their siblings.”

UPDATE 12/30/15:  “Lovely! They are just a hoot! The platinum hoodie and two lavenders are just pure gold! And the little black boy is becoming quite the social butterfly. He has a good sense of humor.”

UPDATE on the boys, 11/26/15:  “All of these boys are just gems! They love to play and to be with you and clamor for attention! This litter is not to be missed!

Minotaur  – Mino is a very sweet, but lazy boy. While his brothers are likely to rush the door, Mino waits for your to come to him. He can be a bit dramatic, but he’s fine with a shoulder ride or a cuddle and will come out if he decides the treat at the door is good enough!

Centaur – We call him the watcher. He loves to sit on the lower platform of the cage and watch your every move. He’s very sweet and interested in whatever it is you are doing. When he knows what he wants, there is no stopping him!

Pegasus – Like his brother, Peg is a little more likely to be in the second wave of noses to the door, but he loves to play and cuddle. Peg is always up for a good wrestle.

Cerberus  – Cerberus is like his brother Pegasus in many ways. He’s a bit more bold (he’s often right behind the triplets at the door), but he’s always up for a love and some play.

Orthrus, Chimera, and Hydra – Aside from size and belly markings, these triplets are identical in almost every way! They are always the first to the door, the first out the door, and the first to explore whatever it is that you’re doing. Orthrus is the biggest and I suspect he is going to be one big, squishy boy when he finishes growing. Chimera is a little more dainty than his brother, but he doesn’t let it hold him back. Hydra is the peanut of the bunch, but often the most rowdy. ”

UPDATE on the girls, 11/14/15:  This is a wonderful group of girls! They benefitted from intensive supervision because foster mom and foster dad couldn’t keep their hands off them. They are all very sweet but rambunctious, typical of girls this age.

Echidna was a wonderful momma. She deserves credit, she successfully raised twelve! babies! She was very good to them and always nursing, but is very happy that they need less of her time now. She was a baby herself when she got pregnant (the prior owner did not separate quickly enough), so she still has that young rat energy. She is fine with being picked up, but would much rather climb up onto your shoulder for transportation. She’s also very food motivated. She loves nothing more than to hoard food and create nests!

Sphinx is a fun girl! She’s known to be a bit of a drama queen. She likes to instigate chases but is the first to make a noise when she gets wrestled to the ground. I think she was a soccer player in another life haha.

Medusa is a sweetheart. She seeks out attention just for attention and is usually the first to come to the cage (though quickly after I have six faces begging me). She really enjoys climbing toys (and people) and hand wrestling. She’s also a fast one, and loves to try to escape and then look at you, as if to say, why aren’t you coming with me?

Scylla is the sweet runt of the litter. She’s smaller than her other sisters, but her heart is just as big. She’s not as daring as the others, but very friendly. As is typical of her age, she loves to run around and doesn’t settle down, but she does like to check back in with you for safety.

Laclaps is very funny! She’s very into acrobatics and is always trying some crazy stunt! She is not reserved at all and is quick to come check you or anything new out.

Erinyes is one of the boldest of the bunch! She’s a very curious girl and loves to explore the world around her. She also is known to try to run in the wheel, when someone else is in it. She’s very food motivated and snacks are the way to her heart.”
