These girls came to us on 6/4/19 because their owner was moving and couldn’t bring them along. We were informed after their surrender that these girls originally came from a breeding home that tested positive for serious pathogens in December 2018. Luckily these girls escaped that breeder home in July 2018 so while unlikely, there is a chance these girls were exposed, but never became ill. We have been advised by multiple vets that the girls are well past a period where the infection would be active or contagious, and the likelihood that they present a risk to healthy rats is minimal. However, between the medical risk and their age, we decided to make these two permanent, sanctuary fosters.

UPDATE 6/28/19:

“Walnut is a very middle of the road girl–she’s friendly and gives kisses, but can also blend into the background.

Starbuck is a sweet little old lady and has a cataract in one eye. She’s more nervous about being picked up because of it, but is very easy if you let her know you’re approaching (she won’t bite, but can get startled).”
