These boys came to us on 3/25/17 because their owner had too many pets. They were neutered on 5/8/17 and are safe to live with the ladies! Penny came to us on 8/27/17 because her owner was allergic to her. The boys, especially Sheldon, have a history of biting but have been doing so well with the help of their foster.

Fostered by Althea in Manchester, NH.

UPDATE 9/15/17:

“Penny and the Boyz are doing great. They’d make a wonderful “ready made family” for a rat savvy adopter. They all get along wonderfully & are now quite active, playful and curious. All four of them are using their teeth less and less (but still occasionally, esp if they smell food). They don’t break the skin, it’s more of a “is that food? oops, no, ok, sorry”. I am using a spoon to offer treats, and they’re becoming a lot more gentle and less grabby. They are all very food motivated. That’s a mixed blessing, of course. I wouldn’t put any of them in a home with young kids.

Sheldon is the laziest of the bunch but he seems to be very content now with his girlfriend doting on him. He chases after her gleefully when she’s in heat and will jump on her back but does not hump her. She doesn’t seem to mind in the least. While Sheldon is a lazy boy, he is likely never going to be a rat that you can hold and pet.

Penny is a girl on the go, and after almost a year in a tiny cage, she will not be happy being confined or having less than at least an hour out of the cage each day.

Leonard and Howard have potential for being more cuddly boys. I’d love to see them go to a home where they would have their own ladies! I feel fairly confident that they’d  be easy to intro to a couple of girls. They are both fairly active for boys, so would be a good fit for someone who prefers the explorer rats.”

UPDATE 9/26/17:

Howard and Penny are now a pair; both have the same energy level and both are quirky. They make a great couple. I had another rat lover come by and Howard rolled on his back when she was petting him! Penny can be a little grumpy once in a while, but she is so sweet most of the time. She can be pet even while she is in the cage.”
