These sweet babies were found abandoned in a box in a park in NH. They came into custody on 3/15/16.

UPDATE 3/25/16:

Rovie is a busybody, he’s very curious and will come forward to say hi and sniff your finger while at the cage door. He will take some foods from your hand. Rovie is not a big fan of being held and it can be difficult to catch him though once out, he likes to be pet. When in my hoodie, he keeps poking his head out to look around.

I think Mickey will be more of a snuggle bug, he likes to snuggle into my hoodie. Mickey won’t take food from your hand, he prefers to stay in his hammock and observe. He is still nervous about being held but once held, he will settle in and is not as ‘busy’ as is his brother, Rovie. I can pick Mickey up by hand without trouble.

I am still getting to know the girls. They snuggle together under things for the most part. Stephie seems to be the most independent and curious thus far, she sticks her head out to observe more than her sisters.”

UPDATE 4/10/16 on Lena’s girls:

“These girls are really warming up to people! Even though they come running to the cage door when I get up in the morning, they don’t really want to leave the cage, but once they’re out they are very sweet and adventurous!

Stephie is definitely more of a leader. She was the first one to let me pick her up and cuddle her and was the first one to try leaving the cage on her own. I think she would do well with most other rats. She seems interested in my other rats and just wants to groom them and follow them around.

Ceecee is more laid back and likes to follow Stephie’s lead. She’s more hesitant to leave the cage or to be out in the open without a spot to hide in. She will come over for a snuggle sometimes, and will venture into new places once Stephie’s been there to check it out first.

Katie is the most scared of the bunch. She will let me pet her most of the time, but does get nervous and test-bite. She is much more social when she’s around one of her sisters; she’ll let me pick her up or try to give her a treat no problem if Stephie and Ceecee are with her.”

UPDATE 4/12/16 on the boys:

“Rovie and Mickey had been living separately but have been reunited with each other. They are timid boys and are slowly beginning to come out of their shells. It is getting easier to take them out of the cage but when out for playtime, they tend to hide. Their confidence will improve with time and lots of attention.

As of now, they are best for a rat experienced home or a home that does not mind timid boys that need work. A family who wants ‘instant’ friendly/curious rats will be disappointed but someone who doesn’t mind carrying them around in a hoodie, to work on their confidence, will be pleased. These boys do not bite and I believe they have lots of snuggle potential :)”

UPDATE 4/17/16 on the boys:

Mickey and Rovie are perfect young boys for Grandma and Grandpa ratties. We’ve had many many senior losses recently and yesterday we decided to see how Mickey and Rovie would do with a pair of old grandma ladies. It is LOVE, true love. The little boys are buried in the old ladies’ fur, as if taking comfort. The grandmas seem thrilled.

These boys are very calm and would make great companions for oldies, but goodies : )

UPDATE 5/1/16:

“Mickey, Rovie, Stephie, and Ceecee are all living together happily now. The boys love Ceecee and are always trying to cuddle and groom her. Stephie’s more independent but still gets along with everyone just fine. Mickey and Rovie are still a bit shy but opening up more everyday. They definitely do better with more laid back rats–Stephie’s high energy was very off-putting to them when they first were re-introduced.

At this point, all four of them would be happy to go home together. They can also still be split into same-sex pairs, or either boy (or both of them) would be happy to go home with Ceecee. Stephie does well with Katie, but Katie is still too nervous to go home.”

UPDATE 5/26/16 on Jessie:

“Jessie is making progress.  She is starting to come up to the door for treats and exploring a little during free range time.  She is very sweet and gentle.  She is learning to be comfortable being picked up but she tests any hands that are put into the cage with her mouth.  She follows my girls around takes their lead. I think paired with an outgoing rat she will continue her progress. I think it would be best for her to go home with a family that doesn’t have young children.”

UPDATE 5/30/16 on Katie:

“Katie is very sweet outside of the cage. She is still shy, but not aggressive and doesn’t use her teeth. Inside the cage she is still territorial and prefers to spend most of the day hiding, but she has learned to come over for treats and will take them gently from a hand. I think she would do well with a more relaxed friend.”
