The Pirate boys came to us on 3/27/17 because their owner was moving and unable to keep them. Before that, they had another previous owner who kept them for snake food which is where two of the boys lost an eye!

Happy and Bashful came to us on 6/4/16 from Holbrook, and their cousin Brook came to us on 1/21/17 from another hoarding case by the same culprit.

Fostered by Lena in Leominster, MA.

UPDATE 5/20/17:

Brook is still cautious and does have a history as a biter. She needs to go to a home willing to work with her and understand her limits, but she has the potential to be a real sweetheart with a little TLC. She is relatively courageous and something of an explorer.”

UPDATE 5/26/17:

Happy and Bashful are a little shy but coming around. They both do have a tendency to nibble if you aren’t careful, so they should go to a rat-experienced home. They are fine with being scooped up and pet, and take treats nicely. They are very rat-social and do well in introductions. They love their boyfriends and follow them around, groom them, and cuddle together.

The three boys are the sweetest and most bonded brothers I have ever met! They have a little PTSD about being picked up but they have never bitten–they only fidget. Once they’re in your arms, they love to boggle and cuddle!

Morgan is the leader of the bunch and the most easy to pick up. He loooves to cuddle and boggle.

Hook needs to poop out his anxieties first, but once he’s out for a few minutes he is another cuddle bug. He has the sweetest white tum.

Jack is the shyest about being picked up, which is either because of or despite the fact that he’s the only one who can see it coming from both sides! He’s still sweet and will do anything for a yogie.”

UPDATE 6/17/17 on the girls:

“I’m happy to lift the label of ‘nibbler’ off of both Happy and Bashful. Both girls haven’t bitten in at least a week, and even then it seems it was more of an overly excited nibble than a true bite; they never went in with the intent to hurt. Now they are both silly groomers, and can be a bit overzealous but respond well to eeping. Both are easy to scoop up and run right to the cage door whenever I pass by. Both are incredibly food motivated and would likely do well being trained. Their adoptive home should understand that they may need some time to readjust in a new environment, but they are truly wonderful girls! The three girls would be happy to go home all together, but at this point they could go in a pair or even as singles as long as no one is left living alone–they adjust well to new friends and learn by example with other social rats.

Happy will do tentative shoulder rides and will sit for a couple of seconds at a time to get pet. Despite snacking on yogies multiple times per day while she shits on my lap, she will not gain weight and is the smallest adult rat I’ve ever seen. She loves to climb all over the place and uses the wheel to climb up rather than run on.

Bashful is more of a typical playful, zoomy girl. She has gained some weight since her last photo and is getting a little squishier–it’s just more of her to love! I even flipped her over to kiss her on her fat little tum this evening and only came away with an angry (sharp) foot to the face.

Brook has not actually bitten me since I got her, but I can tell she’d like to. Fortunately she’s very slow about it so it’s easy to avoid her teeth. She will take scritches and very politely takes snacks. She’s still not as handleable as her friends, but is certainly coming around. When I first got her she used to hide in the back of the cage whenever I came over, but now she runs to the front of the cage with the rest of the crew.”
