An explosion of pregnant momma hamsters–and then their babies!–came to us on 7/9/16 from an overcrowded shelter in Maine. They are named “Summer’s Gang” because they all share a common grandma hamster named Summer. Summer’s owner says “Summer is the sweetest hamster ever. ALL of her grandchildren have great genes : )”

Fostered by Mary in Lebanon, NH.

UPDATE 11/12/16 on Lavender & Tea Tree:

Lavender is a little more laid-back. She still loves exploring and building and climbing, but she is fairly content with her space.

Tea Tree is an adventurer, always moving around everything in her cage, never giving up on chewing, digging, or climbing her way out to explore some more. She tips over any house you put in, was the first to discover how to climb the water bottle, (though Lavender wasn’t far behind), and has great big dreams of finding every hamster-sized space in the house.

Lavender was the first to learn how to climb stairs (though Tea Tree wasn’t far behind). They are both very sweet, but Tea Tree is easier to startle. A little more high-strung, I think.

I adore both of them, and think they would both do very well in any family, as long as they have a big enough space. I would recommend something at least the size of a 20 gallon tank to give them plenty of space to move around, have a wheel, a house, a toy, a toilet paper roll, etc, and still have open floor space.”

UPDATE 11/13/16 on Amberboots:

Amberboots is a silly little lady. She is somewhat cautious but doesn’t bite. She generally reacts well to being stroked and scooped up, and when calm will relax in your hands and sniff around. When something sets her off, though, she really gets on the move–she can be very wiggly! She will sometimes take treats from a hand, but only if you have something good to offer. Otherwise she isn’t interested even if you just leave it in her cage. One of her cute quirks is that she likes to just sit on her wheel, sit up on her hind legs, and just sniff around for a while, observing the world. My husband has quite taken to her and calls her a little princess observing her kingdom. She lets him hold her and pet her when she first comes out of her cage.”

UPDATE 12/5/16 on Lemonade:

“She is settling in well! Loves her fresh veggies, loves to hide inside my shirt, and is becoming more comfortable with being touched. She really wasn’t bad, just a little jumpy about it. I think she’ll come around in no time. She’s a sweetie. It was funny to give her a yogurt drop treat, because she’d clearly never had one before and wasn’t sure what to make of it. She eventually decided it was delicious. :)”

UPDATE 2/7/17 on Lemonade:

Lemonade is a contented, lazy little lady who spends most of her time curled up in her nest sleeping, grooming herself, or venturing out for snacks. In her free range time, she moves slowly about, investigating things at her own pace. She is easily startled, but soon recognizes there’s nothing to be afraid of and goes along her way. She is very sweet, is happy to be cuddled and loved on, and is generally good-natured. She doesn’t like to be woken up, but then, who does? She loves her fresh foods, especially apples.”
