You can have a rat party too!

Hats: Party hats took a few minutes to assemble but we were very happy with our rat
party hats. We purchased plain hats and used a glue gun to add google eyes, pompom
nose and whiskers that we made from wax coated string found in the jewelry making
department of our local craft store. The ears were just cut from sheets of paper with a tab
to glue on the hat and although you can not see it in the picture, we had ribbons for tails
out the back of our party hats.

Cake, Cupcakes and Snacks: Our cake was supposed to be rat heads coming from little
holes but ended up looking like little rats on the cake, next time I might just add licorice tails to
the cake. The rat heads that we used for our cake and rat cupcakes we just cut out on paper, used a
black marker to put on the face and then laminated and cut them out with a tab to be able
to stick into the cake or cupcakes. My daughter then added more google eyes, but they
were just as cute with little black eyes. The rat cupcakes were a HUGE hit at the kids
party. The only thing we had to do for cupcakes was color the frosting and add licorice
tails. We made ratty snacks too! We used a variation of Suebee’s Mix (minus the dogfood/lab blocks) so the kids had healthy food to eat at the party as well. We used healthy cereals, soy nuts, dried fruit, and sunflower seeds. The children loved to be picking through the snacks just the way the rats do.

Rat kids: We also wanted to look like ratties! We got two face painting sticks and added
noses and whiskers to our party goers. To complete the look we found small pink feather
boas that we added as tails. Our ten little rat kids were adorable and in the mood to play!

Rats: The most important thing about having a rat birthday is having some rats to
celebrate with. We were lucky to be able to celebrate both the boys 9 week birthday and
our Daughters 9 year birthday all at once. As you can see, even the boys liked the rat
cake! Only a little taste though so we keep our boys healthy.
