In mid-March, a squirming box was brought into an animal shelter in Connecticut that had been found at a local bus stop. Inside the box were 28 hamsters, which quickly grew to over 40 when some of the hamsters gave birth! The shelter needed help finding homes for so many hamsters,  so some of them came into our custody on 4/8/16.

Fostered by Sandra in Limington, ME.

UPDATE 4/14/16:

Peony is sweet and doesn’t mind being held.

Strawberry is a little reserved but still very friendly. She also likes sleeping.

Mitzi loves her wheel. She’s constantly running on it and doesn’t care if there’s someone else using it. She has no problem pushing them off. She’s friendly as well and is very active.

Strawberry and Mitzi are living together and would prefer to go home together!

Rowan is calm, relaxed, and very friendly. I think his favorite hobby is taking naps.

Smokey is friendly and okay with any handling. He likes the wheel when he gets the chance to use it (when Mitzi isn’t on it).

Marshmallow is nippy and seems a little grumpy. The other hamsters are so friendly compared to her, but it could just be his personality as well.

Julip is curious and loves protein. She is a busy nest builder.

UPDATE 4/29/16 on Marshmallow:

Marshmallow is not as grumpy. He just needs a little time to get socialized and he’ll be okay.

UPDATE 5/1/2016 on Julip:

Julip is an adorable lil’ squirt who is gaga over eggs, meal worms, Cheerios, and yogurt drops. She’s not excited about being touched, but she is very curious about life around her. She is often awake during the day & isn’t shy about begging for food, racing in her wheel, or digging tunnels in her bedding.

UPDATE 5/9/16 on Nadia:

Nadia is doing great. She is getting used to hands in her cage but is still nervous about it.

UPDATE 6/10/16 on Strawberry, Mitzi, & Marshmallow:

“The two girls, Mitzi and Strawberry, are both so sweet. They’re always excited when I go up to the cage. They’re not big chewers, but they do love running on their wheels. Their cage has two wheels now because Mitzi always takes over the wheel. I’d definitely recommend to anyone who adopts them to keep two silent wheels in their cage so both hamsters get a chance to run.

Marshmallow is still nippy and isn’t a fan of being handled. He is one of the goofiest hamsters I’ve ever had though. He always has this grumpy look on his face like someone just woke him up. It’s adorable. He also does laps all around his cage with his food until he decides where he wants to eat. He loves his running through toilet paper rolls and running on his wheel.”
