UPDATE 9/24/16:

“Bruno and Olive Oyl have become such sweet ratties and now they are sweet on each other! Although Olive still “tastes” a little when you take her from the cage, its never done in anger. Bruno, you can actually touch his little mouth and not even the slightest hint of a lip curl. Just a wonderful bonded pair these two are!”

UPDATE 11/7/16:

“It has been well over a month now since Olive Oyl has done any “tasting” of fingers. I believe she has moved past this! She has become such a little love and she just loves faces. She will reach up and sniff your whole face before melting into a puddle in your lap. She keeps herself nice and clean and her fur is always soft. She has never pooped outside of her cage. Olive Oyl loves cheese crackers and takes them gently.

It takes Bruno about 3-5 minutes of being held close before he settles down, but once he does it is all cuddles and love from there! Like Olive Oyl, he loves to sniff faces and climb up into your hair. He too is nice and clean, although will poop a couple of times out of his cage until he settles down, just for that first 3-5 minutes or so. I have found the one and only snack that Bruno will take from me is apple sticks.

I think with practice, both rats could become 100% litter box trained. They both use a box now for most of their poop.”
