UPDATE 6/26/17 from previous owner:

Emma gets along with everyone. She is very healthy and active. She is a great climber!!

Natasha & Dory aka Doreen are super friendly with humans, love to be stroked and will climb all over you. They don’t mind being held as long as they’ve had some play time first.

Natasha is much smaller than Dory; you can tell them apart by the faint red mark on Dory’s tail, and also Dory has a dark, dirty looking tail and she is much heavier/bigger than Natasha. They both like to get inside your clothes and will curl up on your lap. They get along great with other rats, are playful, active, inquisitive and good climbers.

All of the girls have only one bad habit: they don’t often use the litter box. They all playfully power groom from time to time and you might hear an occasional squeal of protest but that’s it. I think it would be easy to intro to them new rats. Emma might take a wee bit more time, as she seems to be the new alpha, now that Patty is gone.

They eat Regal Rat but have had Harlan Teklad lab blocks and liked them. Their favorite treat is plain puffed rice or puffed wheat, and pretty much any vegetable, pasta (dried or cooked) oatmeal, baby food etc.  Don’t give too much fruit, one of them gets very mushy poops if you do. I do not give them sugary treats anymore and I would strongly advise against giving them yogies etc, as they are VERY easily put off their main diet if they’ve had too many treats. I gave them a sugary cereal one time and they refused to eat their regular food for a long time. They went on a hunger strike. Even giving them a few too many sunflower seeds has put them off their food.

They all seem to know their names. They will also come running if you say “do you want a cookie?” (I don’t give them cookies, that’s what I call treats, even peas and spinach are called “cookies”- hey, they don’t know the difference LOL). They know “it’s time to come out to play” and at the end of playtime, “it’s time to go home”

They all love to rip up paper and will be bored if they don’t have some nesting materials in their cage- tisues, tp, packing paper, foam sheets, something they can shred and nest with. That’s their favorite thing to do. Also cardboard boxes that they can chew up. They all also love to play in water, fishing for peas and will love it if they have a shallow tub of water to play in when it’s hot.”
