These girls came to us because their original owner moved out and left them with a roommate who has no rat experience. They came into our custody on 5/8/16.

Fostered by Willow in Thomaston, ME.

#2016142N, “Harlee”, Rat, Black, Berkshire, Standard Ears/Standard Coat, Female, DOB: 08/08/2015, Spayed/Neutered?: No

UPDATE 5/10/16:

“Harlee and Shiloh are the easiest to pick up. Shiloh really likes her hut. Harlee has a couple of her own hang out spots, but is often snuggled up with Shiloh.

Lacie is often out by herself and she is the most curious of all of them. Lacie is almost always near the front of the cage or standing on top of a hut/igloo to hear/smell/see what is going on. However, when I open the doors to the cage Lacie will run away, but Shiloh and Harlee will start to emerge from wherever they are snuggled up.

I am sure that these three girls would do fine with other rats as they were immediately comfortable around my two girls (newbies showed no bristling or hesitance around them). In another week or so, I believe I will be able to house everyone together without issue.

At this point I believe these rats would do well with nearly any family: I don’t think small children would be a great idea at this stage; prior rat experience would be a plus, but not absolutely necessary. They are still a little shy, so require a bit of patience. They are nervous about my cats. I do not know how they would be around dogs.”

UPDATE 7/12/16:

“Other than using caution about hands in cage, they are good good girls each with a very distinct personality. When I deliver a filled food dish I pass that test. They all enjoy being out and being handled once they are out (even Harlee).

Shiloh, admittedly, is the super active type and usually prefers exploring to snuggles.

Lacie likes cuddles, hoodies, and attention.

Harlee is often a bit tense for the first few minutes, then will finally settle in and calm down.

They are a lot of fun and super adorable.”
