We were contacted by MSPCA – Cape Cod Animal Adoption Center in Centerville, Mass. They took rats from someone who had too many. The owner said they were separated by gender but when the females started gaining weight the shelter suspected they might be pregnant and contacted us and they were not equipped to handle that many rats. Four of the six females gave birth and we took all of the litters and put them in foster homes where they could be handled and raised with love.

These babies came into custody on 09/28/2015.

UPDATE 1/27/16, on the girls:  “The girls are doing well – they LOVE people. And anytime anyone walks by, they hang off the bars of the cage, all lined up begging to play. It is so sweet. They love the wheel, which we have to rotate in and out of the cage because they would use it 24/7 and make a racket if we let them 🙂
They like veggies and pancakes. None of them are in the least bit aggressive, and they all flock to the door to say hi when someone comes to open it. (My hubby is afraid to open the door now, because he had one girl jump out on him to give him a hug around Christmas time)
They are fun to watch, and enjoy running around and wrestling with each other.”

UPDATE 1/25/16, on Avy’s boys:  “Rumparooz and Fishnoodles have fairly similar personalities. Both are very active and curious, constantly exploring and play-wrestling with the other boys. Fishnoodles is a little more boisterous. He is very food motivated and is constantly trying to find more treats (be they human treats, rat treats, even just more lab blocks). When rough housing, they get slightly nibbly. They’ve never properly bitten anyone (rat or human) and have gotten much better about this compared to when they first came here! It’s a work in progress. Rumparooz is slightly more people social: after he’s done exploring he’ll come over to his human and climb right into their lap for pets. Fishnoodles doesn’t usually do that, though he does love a good scritching! They really are sweet boys.”
